SURABAYA, May 17, 2025. In order to expand the bonds of synergy, PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (Bank Jatim) together with Universitas Terbuka (UT) Surabaya signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday (17/5). The signed MoU is regarding the Provision of Banking Services and the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridharma) in the Banking Sector. Located at the UT Surabaya Building, the MoU was signed by Bank Jatim Director of IT, Digital, and Operations Zulhelfi Abidin and the Rector of UT Mohamad Yunus.
This activity also coincided with the inauguration of UT's new building, which was also attended by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Menko PMK) Pratikno and the Vice Governor of East Java Emil Elestianto Dardak.
Zulhelfi explained that the scope of the cooperation plan to be carried out by Bank Jatim and UT Surabaya covers several matters. These include the provision of banking services as well as the implementation of education, research, and community service in the field of banking. ”In the world of education, Bank Jatim does not only provide easy and efficient education fee payment facilities. However, we are also involved in various strategic collaborations to improve the quality of education, such as here at UT,” he detailed.
Zulhelfi hopes that this cooperation can create a campus environment that is not only inclusive but also encourages the growth of a financially savvy young generation. With this closer cooperation, it is expected to provide significant benefits for both parties, both for Bank Jatim in expanding its customer network and for UT Surabaya in improving the quality of service to its academic community.
According to Zulhelfi, with a wide network and modern banking facilities, Bank Jatim is ready to provide convenience for students and parents in accessing financial services that support the educational process. Bank Jatim understands that quality education is the key to increasing national competitiveness in the era of globalization. By continuing to support various initiatives in the field of education, Bank Jatim will continue to strive to create a better education ecosystem, where students and educational institutions can synergize with each other to build a brighter future.
”We also congratulate you on the inauguration of the new UT Surabaya Building. Hopefully, through the development of supportive infrastructure and multi-stakeholder collaboration, UT will be increasingly able to strengthen its role in forming a generation of students who are useful for the nation and state,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Yunus expressed his highest appreciation to Bank Jatim for the establishment of this synergy. This is because the existence of close collaboration between educational institutions and financial institutions is expected to create an ecosystem that supports the growth of a sustainable and highly competitive industry in Indonesia. ”Thank you for the trust of Bank Jatim, which has collaborated to support UT Surabaya in the development of the three pillars of higher education. Hopefully, this cooperation can provide a real contribution to UT Surabaya, Bank Jatim, and for the nation,” he said.
Menko PMK Pratikno, who was present in person to inaugurate the new UT building, assessed that UT has carried out an important mandate in equalizing access to higher education in Indonesia. ”Higher education must not be a privilege for a few people. UT shows that innovation can be a bridge for all levels of society,” he said.
