Strengthening Sharia Services, Bank Jatim Signs Business Synergy Cooperation Agreement with Bank NTB Syariah

SURABAYA - March 8, 2023. Following up on the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk or bankjatim and PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Nusa Tenggara Barat Syariah or bank NTB Syariah some time ago, today (8/3) the two institutions signed a business synergy Cooperation Agreement (PKS) which took place at Double Tree Hilton Surabaya.
The signing of the cooperation agreement was carried out by Director of Micro, Retail, and Medium Bank Jatim Arief Wicaksono and Director of Financing Bank NTB Syariah Muhamad Usman witnessed directly by the President Director of Bank Jatim Busrul Iman, Director of Finance, Treasury, and Global Services Bank Jatim Edi Masrianto, and President Director of Bank NTB Syariah Kukuh Rahardjo.
Busrul explained that collaboration is an important thing that must be done by Regional Development Banks (BPD) in innovating and transforming in order to be able to compete in the digital era like today. Therefore, his party is very open to collaboration with various parties in order to expand the network.
According to him, cooperation with Bank NTB Syariah is the right step, strategic, and has an attractive value. "We have agreed to place some capital, where the initial stage we will place around Rp 50-100 billion. Alhamdulillah, if some time ago we have followed up the PKS with Bank NTB Syariah related to services and IT, then this time we follow up the PKS with Bank NTB Syariah related to sharia," he explained.
Currently the assets of the Sharia Business Unit (UUS) bankjatim itself is still around Rp 3 trillion. While bankjatim has assets of up to Rp 103.03 trillion as of the end of December 2022. "Still too small compared to the parent," he added.
Therefore, Busrul hopes that with this cooperation between banks can complement each other's services in order to achieve business acceleration. "Our hope for the short term, UUS can grow. Well, NTB Syariah is already in the form of a sharia unit so of course we can synergize, transfer knowledge, transfer skills, and share our products. So that the sharia unit can be increasingly enjoyed by our market in East Java, and vice versa, "said Busrul.
Bankjatim also hopes that this cooperation can continue to be developed into other sectors. Because in principle bankjatim does not want to grow alone. Rather, it wants to grow with all stakeholders. "Our spirit is the spirit of collaboration and the spirit of synergy," said Busrul.
President Director of Bank NTB Syariah Kukuh Rahardjo said, this cooperation is one of the strategic steps, both taken by Bank NTB Syariah and bankjatim. "We believe that with this step there will be benefits obtained from synergies based on our desire to give each other the best," he said.
According to Kukuh, when viewed in terms of assets, bankjatim is one of the regional banks that has assets above Rp 100 trillion. "Well, when we propose to shareholders, thank God our shareholders also have the same assessment that synergy with bankjatim is the best alternative for Bank NTB Syariah. Our shareholders also hope that this KUB can be implemented around May or June," he said.
