SURABAYA, September 4, 2023. Growth Simpel Savings (Student Savings) PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk or bankjatim increased rapidly. This is evidenced by the achievement of bankjatim which successfully became the most Simpel Savings account collectors in East Java for the period January-August 2023. Located in the Ballroom of OJK Regional Office 4 East Java, the proud achievement was symbolically received by the President Director of bankjatim Busrul Iman in the Puncak Kreasi Bangkit activity on Monday (4/9).

Busrul explained, from an early age, students should be taught to save and manage finances. One of them is through Simple Savings. Thus, the level of financial inclusion and literacy among students can continue to increase. "In line with the OJK program, we also continue to actively educate the public to instill a culture of saving from an early age. Because, by familiarizing children to save, it also teaches them to appreciate a process, "he explained.

In addition, according to him, the culture of saving is not only a habit, but also an investment in the sustainability of the younger generation in the future. By instilling this culture, he believes it can be a doorway for the younger generation to manage finances more wisely and realize an inclusive generation.

Thanks to the aggressiveness of the bank, the young generation will be able to manage their finances more wisely.

Thanks to bankjatim's aggressiveness in socializing this Simpel savings, the achievement of opening bankjatim Student Savings accounts for the period January - August 2023 managed to touch 79,242 with a nominal value of Rp 8,581,342,956. This figure is the largest in East Java. "Overall until July 2023, the total NOA of bankjatim Simple Savings is 851,427 accounts with a value of Rp 83,318,445,148, -," said Busrul.

Head of OJK Regional Office IV Giri Triboto stated, access to finance is the right of all people and at the same time has an important role in improving one's standard of living in order to realize economic independence. "In accordance with the 2019 Presidential Decree on Indonesia's Saving Day followed by the 2020 Presidential Regulation on the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, it has targeted Indonesia's financial literacy level at 90 percent for 2024," he said.

The policy is also followed up by the OJK Regional Office IV Head Giri Triboto.

The policy was also followed up by a Circular Letter of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs in 2022 on accelerating the implementation of financial literacy and inclusion programs in which it requested support from all stake holders, starting from OJK, the ministry of home affairs, the ministry of education, culture, to the ministry of religion so that all students could have savings accounts. "Because basically instilling a culture of saving from an early age can provide many benefits. Children can learn discipline, form a mindset to value money, and avoid consumptive behavior," said Giri.

Based on OJK data, there are already 50 million students in Indonesia who have savings accounts in banks with a total nominal value of around Rp 29 trillion. Then, if you look at East Java BPS data, the number of students in East Java who already have savings reaches 8.2 million people. "This figure is a huge potential in meeting the achievement of the financial inclusion target that has been set. OJK itself will continue to socialize and educate related to the culture of saving, especially in the millennial generation so that financial inclusion can increase and development funding can be stronger, "said Giri.

Meanwhile, East Java Provincial Secretary Adhy Karyono added, East Java's financial inclusion is currently at 92.99 percent. However, the fact is that the level of financial literacy in East Java is still around 55.30 percent. "The community is bankable, can access all digital banking services, has a credit card, and even uses QRIS. But it is still low for students. Therefore, we must all work together so that all East Java students have bank accounts so that East Java can progress," he explained.
