SURABAYA, October 13, 2024 – The Jatim Inclusion Festival (Jifest) 2024 has concluded successfully. The exhibition, organized by the financial services industry from October 10–13, 2024, attracted thousands of visitors. Held at the Atrium of Tunjungan Plaza Surabaya, the closing ceremony of Jifest 2024 was attended by Bank Jatim President Director Busrul Iman, who also serves as Chairman of the East Java Financial Services Industry Communication Forum (FKIJK), Head of the Economic Bureau of the East Java Provincial Government Aftabuddin Rijaluzzaman, House of Representatives member Indah Kurnia, Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for Conduct Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection Friderica Widyasari Dewi, OJK Regional 4 East Java Head Yunita Linda Sari, and several other VIP guests on Sunday (October 13).
Busrul explained that Jifest is a collaboration between OJK Regional Office 4 East Java and financial institutions under FKIJK East Java, along with local governments in East Java. The festival is held annually and 2024 marks its third edition. Jifest serves as the culmination of the Financial Inclusion Month (BIK), which runs from July to October 2024.
“There are a wide variety of activities within Jifest, all aimed at increasing public understanding of financial products and services, promoting financial literacy and inclusion programs, and enhancing consumer protection. Through Jifest, the public is able to open bank accounts and access financial services directly,” he stated.
According to Busrul, during the event, a total of 1,721 new bank accounts (Number of Accounts – NOA) were successfully opened at booths within Jifest 2024, with total deposits reaching Rp 1.64 billion. Visitor turnout also achieved satisfying results, with 2,454 attendees recorded. “We also report that 20 tenants from various financial institutions took part in making Jifest 2024 a lively event, including showcasing their fostered MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise) products, including those from Bank Jatim,” he added.
Jifest 2024 featured a variety of activities including financial education sessions, talk shows and workshops, a coloring competition, financial industry competitions, blood donation drives, reels competitions, an MSME financial products bazaar, and SLIK (Financial Information Services System) services. On the occasion, Busrul also symbolically handed over Rp 500 million in Bank Jatim's KUR (People’s Business Credit) to a Padang restaurant entrepreneur and signed a joint commitment to implement the national financial literacy movement Gencarkan (Gerakan Nasional Cerdas Keuangan).
Busrul expressed his hope that Jifest 2024 brings great benefits to the entire community, especially in East Java. “We hope this event will enhance financial inclusion in East Java and provide positive impacts for all. We aim for each year’s Jifest to be even better than the last,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Friderica Widyasari Dewi emphasized that strong financial literacy and inclusion are key to improving liquidity and deepening the market, while also boosting national economic growth and reducing welfare disparities. Based on the 2023 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK), the national financial literacy index reached 65.43 percent, and the financial inclusion index stood at 75.02 percent. This shows the financial services sector still has broad potential for development. “That’s why we are optimistic that Jifest 2024 can generate economic impact and significantly enhance financial literacy, education, and inclusion among the public,” she asserted.
Friderica added that, in addition to Jifest 2024, the Gencarkan program can serve as a breakthrough in accelerating widespread and equitable financial literacy and inclusion. The goal is for 90 percent of Indonesian students to have savings accounts by 2025, for the number of Student and Youth Savings (SiMUDA) accounts to reach 2.5 million, for 30 percent of persons with disabilities to use financial products, and for KPMR (Financial Consumer Protection Assistance) to reach 1.6 million debtors. “We strongly hope that by the time we celebrate Indonesia’s Golden Anniversary in 2045, the national financial inclusion index will reach 98 percent,” she said.
She also noted that events like Jifest 2024 must be collaborative efforts, not the responsibility of a few parties alone. “These initiatives must be carried out collectively, including financial institutions, regional governments, and even the media, which indirectly provides vital information to the public. Involving MSME players as participants in Jifest also stimulates economic activity,” she concluded.
